Eyeglass Case Sewing Projects

Making your own eyeglass case is a way to keep glasses safe from scratches and loss. If you wear reading glasses, you may have several pair around the house or office. Attractive, homemade eyeglass cases help make finding them easier.

The Basic Pattern
The first step for any eyeglass case sewing project is a template. Draft a basic template by measuring your largest glasses and drawing a rectangle to fit them. Trim the top and bottom corners of the right side of the rectangle to a curve, and trace this completed template onto template plastic. Place this template with the straight edge on the fold of any fabric, trace and cut out for an outer shell. Cut an identical piece from a lining fabric, such as velvet. Sew pieces together, right sides facing, leaving a small opening. Turn right-side out, stitch the opening closed, and sew together the bottom and side, stopping below the curve. Use this as a basic pattern.

Fashion Fabric Case
If you make your own clothes, set aside the scraps to make a matching eyeglass case. Use a matching velvet or cotton for the lining, and embellish with trim from the garment project.

Embroidered Case
Choose a small elongated design and embroider it on wool, cotton or denim. Make sure it fits the template before marking the pattern. Transform the piece into an eyeglass case with matching lining.
