Eyeglass Repair

It never happens at a convenient time. Just when you need to wear your eyeglasses, they break, and you have no time to take them to a specialist for repairs. So, you will have to repair them, yourself, knowing well that any repairs you make are temporary. Glasses that are not professionally repaired can materially affect your vision, so take those glasses to a vision center soon so they can be either repaired or replaced.

Instructions
1 Put a super bonding glue in your glasses if the frame that goes across you nose breaks. However, be sure that the glue does not get onto your glass lenses, particularly if they are plastic, because they will become distorted and unwearable. Another way to temporarily fix a broken bridge is to tape it. While your glasses may be uncomfortable to wear, take comfort in knowing that your glasses will soon be replaced.

2 Use the small screwdriver that is part of an eyeglass repair kit to tighten the screws found on your glasses. The temples of your glasses are connected to the frame with tiny screws that will come loose over time. Your eyeglasses will fit better when the screws are tightened, more effectively aiding your vision.

3 Dip your plastic glass frame into boiling water if, for example, a part of it drops off. When the plastic becomes pliable, push a straight pin into the glass frame about half way in. Then, push the other half of the pin into the piece that fell off. Before the glasses cool, smooth out the plastic that remains rough as it is still pliable. Never apply direct flame to your plastic eyeglasses because they will easily melt.

4 Replace the broken temples on your eyeglasses with one from another pair of glasses. Depending on the style of the temple that will temporarily serve as a replacement, it maybe be as easy a task as taking the temple from your old glasses and screwing it on. If they are dissimilar, tape the temple to your glasses. That will make them wearable until you can get another pair.

5 Remove scratches on the lenses of your eyeglasses by using plastic polish, if they are plastic. Because of the damage you will do to the lenses, it is not recommended that you attempt to eliminate deep scratches on you lenses. If your metal frames also have some scratches, apply a small amount of jeweler’s polish with a soft rag.
