Eyeglass Temple Repair Tips

Eyeglass temple repair can be expensive for prescription eyeglasses, especially when they are not under warranty. Also, eyeglass temples can become broken at inopportune times, which can make it difficult to get to an eye repair facility. There are a number of ways that eyeglass temples can become broken, from bending, to simply loosening so that a screw goes missing. For those times when it is either inconvenient or expensive to visit an eyeglass repair store, there are a number of options to consider to easily and effectively fix eyeglass temples.

Loose and Lost Screw Repair
A loose screw is one of the easiest things to repair on a pair of eyeglasses. It can be tightened with any tiny screwdriver from an eyeglass repair kit or other kind of tool kit. Also, a small butter knife can work well enough until you are able to obtain a smaller screwdriver to tighten it. Lost screws for eyeglasses can be best found in eyeglass repair kits, which usually also come with a tiny screwdriver. As a temporary measure, you can also use a small safety pin to anchor the screw hole to close it.

Stretced Hinge Repair
Hinges that are stretched out on eyeglasses can be adjusted using a pair of small pliers. Place some masking or duct tape over the pliers to prevent scratching the frame. Gently but firmly squeeze the pliers while bending the hinge into place. Another method is to place a tiny rubber band (available in an eyeglass repair kit or stationary store) over the hinge to hold it in place.

Broken Hinge Repair
A broken hinge can be repaired by using super or bonding glue. First, use an abrasive pad to scrape off any surface material. Use a small amount of glue to hold the break for at least 60 seconds until the glue bonds and dries.

ost Hinge Wing Replacement
A cheap pair of eyeglass frames from a place such as a dollar store, drug store or discount all purpose store can be used to replace a lost or badly broken hinge wing. Choose a pair of glasses that most easily matches or will fit the broken ones. Unscrew the hinge wing and replace the broken or lost one with it. Keep the newly bought frame in case you need it for other future repairs.

Visit a Local Eyeglass Repair
Sometimes, out of courtesy and with a chance of securing new customers, places such as Lens Crafters will make quick fixes and repairs on eyeglasses that were not purchased at their store. It might be worthwhile to check into this option at a local eyeglass store in your area.
