How to Fix Plastic Eyeglass Frames

Eyeglasses using plastic instead of metal can be found in costly prescription frames as readily as inexpensive models. Soft cloth
Eyeglass screws
Jeweler’s screwdriver
Needle-nosed pliers
Cotton swabs
Rubbing alcohol
Bonding glue

1 Put a soft cloth down on a work surface. Put the pieces of the plastic eyeglasses frame down on the clean cloth.

Examine the hinges of the plastic eyeglasses frame for missing screws. Replace any missing screws using the jeweler’s screwdriver.

2 Examine the plastic eyeglasses frame to see if the hinges are damaged or bent out of their original position. Repair any damaged hinge by twisting it back into its original position using the needle-nosed pliers.

3 Reattach a broken hinge to the frame of the plastic eyeglasses by first cleaning the hinge using an alcohol-moistened cotton swab. Let the hinge dry.

4 Apply bonding glue to the hinge and to the frame of the plastic eyeglasses. Hold the two together until the bonding glue sets

Tips & Warnings
A magnifying glass will make examining a plastic eyeglasses frame less of a strain to your eyes.

Some bonding glues will eat into plastic and destroy it. Be careful not to get any of the bonding glue on the lenses of your eyeglasses.
