How to Polish Scratched Eyeglasses

Plastic eyeglass lenses, while lighter and easier to maintain than glass, can be scratched by any number of objects encountered during daily use. To polish the scratch on a pair of eyeglasses, use sports polish that is available from a sporting goods store or hobby shop, or eyeglass cleaners and household items.

Instructions

things you’ll need:
Soft lintless cloths
Sports polish
Dishwashing liquid
Eyeglass cleaning solution

1 Wash the eyeglasses with tap water to remove loose dirt and other contaminants. Shake the water off the eyeglasses before drying them with a soft, lintless cloth.

2 Apply a dab of sports polish to the tip of your index finger. Press the finger against the lens to one side of the scratch. Drag the finger across the scratch to deposit the sports polish onto it. Remove your finger once you reach the other side of the scratch.

3 Rub the length of the scratch, using slow circular motions, with the edge of the soft, lintless cloth. Continue doing this for four to six minutes.

4 Inspect the scratch to see if it is still visible — if so, reapply sports polish and repeat the procedure.

5 Dribble a few drops of dishwashing liquid on both lenses of the eyeglasses. Wash the dishwashing liquid off the eyeglasses using tap water in the kitchen sink. Dry the eyeglasses with the soft, lintless cloth.

6 Dribble a few drops of eyeglass cleaning solution on the side of the lens that had the scratch. Wipe the lens with a dry edge of the soft, lintless cloth, using slow circular motions.
