If you had to put a value on your eyesight, what would it be? It may sound like a crazy question, but if you are not protecting your eyes when you are welding, you must value that sight very little. Safety is a huge part of welding and if you are interested in taking it up, the first thing that you should be purchasing is a good pair of welding goggles.
For the protection that they offer, it is amazing at how inexpensive they actually are. For about $15, you can get a pair of Jackson Goggles that will do a great job. They will give you a snug fit and have side vents to ensure that they don’t start to steam up on you.
Another pair of welding goggles that offers complete protection is the Series 600 Unigoggle ll. These are made of a high density plastic that have a cover plate shade #5 filter to protect your eyes when you have a close up weld. While it is not a full helmet, it still offers you plenty of protection.
If you want more protection, you may choose to actually get a welding helmet. This will protect your entire face and should actually be worn when you are doing heavy duty welding to protect the entire area during your welding. This is especially true when you are in a closed space.
They don’t cost a lot of money, but welding goggles sure do offer a lot of protection. There is no need in trying to prove you are a tough guy or emulate something that you see on TV. When you are welding, make sure you protect your eyes with a good pair of welding goggles. Leave the tough guy stuff up to idiot on TV.
