Well, as a young person, I think they wear it for the following purposes:

People take part in more and more outdoor activities nowadays. They enjoy mountain climbing, travelling and so on. Sunglasses protect their eyes when they are outside. And some people like to play computer games. A pair of glasses which prevents radiation also protects the eyes. The sunlight and radiation are all harmful to eyes.
