Finding the right eyewear for a military mission makes a considerable difference in comfort and outcome. The eyes are sensitive and must be protected from many variables. Any advantage that can be gained from use of eyewear should be used to the fullest, especially when lives are at risk. Protection
Wearing a durable pair of goggles offers protection from dust, wind and debris. Tactical goggles are suitable for desert conditions where sand storms can make it not only difficult to see, but can impair vision. Keeping sand and other debris clear from the eyes requires a durable shield and a tight seal. The tiniest grains of sand can penetrate helmets, clothing and sunglasses. Enhancement
A collision of heat and cold can fog up goggles. Anti-fogging enhancements prevent distortion and blocked vision. Water resistance is another feature that can clearly provide an advantage when the enemy does not have the same capabilities.
Impact
Goggles are for more than making it easier to see in difficult weather conditions and surroundings. They serve as reliable protection from impacts. Flying debris, such as rocks, metal and dirt can have a hard impact and penetrate eyewear that is not specially designed for combat conditions. Cracks and penetration can leave the wearer open to temporary and permanent injuries from a second impact. A variety of lens thicknesses are available, depending on the manufacture and expected purpose of the goggles. Some are specially designed to block side impacts as well.
Accessories
Wearing tactical eyewear by itself may not be enough. A helmet can be coordinated to protect the area above the eyes and brow bone. Masks and balaclavas can be coordinated for added safety beneath the eye area. A tactical shemagh can be slipped underneath the lower part of the goggle for added protection over the nose. This is especially helpful in dusty and windy conditions. Replacement lenses can be installed relatively easily as needed.
