Tanning Beds and Eye Care

It is common knowledge for people to protect their eyes from the harmful rays of the sun – that’s why sunglasses were invented. For sure your parents have warned you about the harmful effects of UV rays to your eyes. Even as a kid, you are already conscious about this basic precaution. If the sun is light years away from earth and you are already very much aware of the damage it can make, what more if the same elements that compose its rays are point blank range within.

That is what exactly happens when you use a tanning bed. While its bronze effect on the skin is very much wanted, it’s not the same when it comes to your peepers. So never compromise your eyes – keep it protected every time you will use a tanning bed.

A very basic step towards eye care in tanning bed use is to keep in mind that you have to remove your contact lenses. Before using a tanning bed, make sure you are not wearing any because it may cause your eyes to dry, thus making it itchy and irritated.

As much as possible, keep your eyes closed on the whole duration of your tanning bed use. This goes even with the use of protective goggles. Since the eyelids are composed of very thin tissues, it can’t block the UV rays completely, allowing almost 75% of it to penetrate. So it’s a sound idea to just close while you are enjoying the tanning session.

Protective goggles play a major role in blocking the heat from damaging your eyes. Hence, it’s best to purchase one that is of good quality. You wouldn’t want to risk the health of your eyes just to save money on cheap protective goggles.
