In 1975, a man named James Jannard started the company with nothing but 300 dollars in his garage. He began with a product called “The Oakley Grip”, a grip made for the handles of motorcycles, one of which none had ever seen the likes of before. He would go to motocross events and sell them out of the back of his car. In the year 1960, Jannard invented a pair of goggles called the O-Frame, with the Oakley logo embellished on the strap, after which the logo was gaining recognition. He then started producing ski goggles in 1983. In September of 2004 Oakley signed a lucrative deal with Fox Racing. Oakley Sunglasses have been a fashion icon in many popular movies such as The X-Men, Spiderman, Black Hawk Down, Blade II, Wanted and G.I. Joe, it is also sported by famous stars such as Rappers T-Payne and Lil’ John. World class poker player Phil Helmuth sports Oakley sunglasses during his tournaments not to mention Lance Armstrong who also use the eyewear. In the year 2007, Oakley signed a deal with Luxottica, an Italian company focused on high fashion eye wear.
