Crafts: How to Make an Eyeglass Necklace

Eyeglasses are a necessary accessory for many people, but you can still sport your glasses fashionably. A handmade, personalized eyeglass necklace gives you easy access to your glasses when you need them and doubles as a beaded necklace. Design and create eyeglass necklaces to match all your favorite outfits. You’ll supplement your accessory stash and won’t have to spend time searching for misplaced glasses.

Instructions

things you’ll need:
Tape measure
Beading wire
2 crimp beads
Eyeglass holder ring
Crimping pliers
Assorted beads

1. Determine how long your eyeglass necklace needs to be. Get a sense for where the necklace will hang by draping a tape measure around your neck. Make sure that the length you choose will fit over your head without a clasp.

2 Cut a length of beading wire approximately 5 inches longer than the finished necklace length. String a crimp bead onto one end of the wire and wrap it around the eyeglass holder ring before bringing it back through the crimp bead. Pull the resulting loop tight and crimp in place.

3 String your beads onto the wire, covering up the wire tail as you go. String a uniform strand of beads for a simple, subtle look, or experiment with complementary colors, sizes and textures in your design. String enough beads to measure 1/2 inch shorter than the finished necklace should be.

4 Thread the wire end through the second crimp bead and wrap it around the eyeglass holder ring. Bring the wire end back through the crimp bead to make a loop. Tighten the loop and crimp the bead in place. Hide any excess wire by running it through several beads on your necklace.

5 Place the finished necklace over your head with the eyeglass holder ring in front. Hook your glasses into the ring for easy access whenever you need them.

Tips & Warnings
• Keep your eyeglass necklace simple if you plan to wear other necklaces at the same time.
• Eyeglass holder rings can be purchased at most craft and jewelry supply stores.
