How to Add Prisms in Eyeglasses

There are a myriad of ways that doctors can correct vision issues. For some people, their eyes do not work in unison and one eye needs positional correction. Double vision happens when someone sees two images using both eyes, instead of the one image that most people see. Both of these conditions can be treated by adding prisms to eyeglasses. The prism lenses trick the eyes into working together.

Instructions
1 Make an appointment with an eye doctor. Schedule a full eye exam, if you have not had one for more than one year. If possible, visit the same eye doctor that you have seen before.

2 Go to the appointment. Once the full eye exam is done, discuss adding prisms to eyeglasses with the eye doctor. If the doctor agrees that doing so would be helpful, move forward with it. The prisms are added by being ground into the lenses at the laboratory. Depending on the laboratory, they may take one week or more to be finished and available for wear.

3 Pick-up the glasses from the eye doctor’s office. Try them on while you are there and make certain that the glasses fit and that the prisms are correct. The doctor will be able to answer any questions that you have.
