How to Repair Plastic Eyeglasses

A pair of broken glasses can really ruin your day, even more so when you realize how expensive it can be to repair or replace them. If your plastic glasses only require a small repair job, you might be able to fix them at home using some simple tools and epoxy. With high stress areas of the glasses, such as the bridge or temple, you can temporarily fix them, but the repair might not be permanent, and it’s best to consult an optician.

Instructions
things you’ll need:
Small glasses screwdriver
Epoxy
Sandpaper
Cotton swabs
Alcohol
Vice

1 Check the temples of your glasses (where the stems of the glasses meet the lens). If the screw holding the stems of your glasses on has become loose, tighten it with a small glasses screwdriver. You also can purchase replacement screws with an optician.

2 If you’re dealing with a break in the frames of your glasses, you need to examine the area of the break. If it’s in a high stress area, any repair might not be permanent.

3 Clean the surface area of the frames where the break is thoroughly with alcohol and a cotton swab.

4 Sand both ends of the break to create a rougher surface so the epoxy will bond easily.

5 Apply epoxy according to the directions on the packaging. Set the glasses in a small vice that correctly presses the two ends of the break together with firm pressure.

6 Allow the epoxy to cure for at least 24 hours before wearing the glasses.
