How to Aim a Bow With Eyeglasses

All bowhunters and archers need to perfect their aim for a successful hunt or shoot. Over time as people age, vision can become poor and eyeglasses may be required. For bow users who wear glasses, shooting with glasses can become a cumbersome issue. How you aim the bow will never change even with wearing glasses. However, the sights that you use can be altered to aid in aiming the bow. Simple modifications can help correct any aiming issues that may arise while shooting with glasses.

Instructions
1 Remove your peep sight if you have one installed. Many archers use peeps for quick target access. When wearing glasses, you have to look at not only the lens, but also the peep sight, the forward sight reticule and the target. Removing this first obstruction will greatly improve accuracy and keep the target from blurring between sights.

2 Apply a defogging solution to your glasses. Glasses will fog up as your body heat rises between your face and the lens, or on a humid or wet day. This is a major problem when it comes to aiming your bow wearing glasses.

3 Stand with your body positioned at a 90-degree angle to the target. Spread your feet shoulder width apart and square your shoulder up with an imaginary line extended from the target bull’s-eye.

4 Draw your bowstring back and press the string against your nose. This is an ideal anchor point for shooters wearing eyeglasses. When you’re wearing glasses, typical anchoring up by the ear can whip your glasses right off your head and cause injury.

5 Aim at the target. If using a forward sight, place the sight pin on the target bull’s-eye. If you notice any blurring, take your eye off the target, then replace it. This generally corrects the blurring effect caused by glasses. If using an open sight, aim with both eyes open looking dead at the target, and square the arrowhead onto the target bull’s-eye. If blurring occurs, close your eyes for a few seconds, then open them again and sight in the target.

Tips & Warnings
You can replace your peep sight or forward lens with an optical lens. Peep sights with magnifying lenses are great to use for archers or hunters who wear eyeglasses. You can take your glasses off and rely on the magnification through the sights.
