Most prescription eyeglasses have a protective coating. Sometimes the eyeglass lens or coating can be scratched no matter how careful you are. These scratches can occur from using the wrong materials to clean the glasses, by dropping the glasses or through just about anything that brings eyeglass lenses in contact with a surface. Replacing the scratched lenses is expensive but wearing the glasses with a scratch can be distracting and makes seeing difficult.

things you’ll need:
Microfiber cloths
Jeweler’s rouge
Toothpaste
Armour Etch
1 Apply Armour Etch according to the directions on the bottle if the scratch appears to just be on the coating on plastic lenses. Do not use Armour Etch on glass. Use a cotton swab to apply the Armour Etch to the side of the lens with the scratch. Armour Etch removes the coating, which removes the scratch.
2 Remove the Armour Etch with a microfiber cloth.
3 Rub non-abrasive toothpaste in a circular motion on the lens with a microfiber cloth using light pressure to reach deeper scratches. Wash the toothpaste off under running water. Repeat if scratches remain.
4 Dab a small amount of jeweler’s rouge and rub in a circular motion with a microfiber cloth to remove any scratches that remain. Jeweler’s rouge is available from jewelery stores. Wash the glasses under running water. Dry with a clean microfiber cloth.
