Lapel pins come in a variety of decorative designs and colors. Beyond decoration and identification these accessories do not traditionally have utilitarian purposes. However, there is a growing variety of functional pins including timepieces, compasses, flashlights and eyeglass holders. Eyeglass holder pins are inexpensive and offer a stylish alternative to the usual necklace style accessory. You can also use your existing lapel pins to hold your eyeglass by adding a detachable glasses loop or adapting the necklace design.

things you’ll need:
Pliers
Jewelers’ chain, 2 to 2.5 feet
Eyeglass holder ends
Ring
1 Purchase a lapel pin with a loop built into the design. (e.g. An O-shaped pin, a pin with a falling chain)
2 Fold the left earpiece against the lens of your glasses. Slide the right earpiece through the pin from front to back.
3 Collapse the glasses so that the hinge at the right temple folds over the lapel ring.
Strand
1 Purchase a link chain that is 2 to 2.5 feet long, or use a set of existing eyeglass holders.
2 Hold the chain horizontally so that the ends meet.
3 Remove the central link with a pair of pliers to create two lengths. Cut the eyeglass holder in half; if beaded, knot the end.
4 Attach one eyeglass holder end piece to each chain. Eyeglass holder end pieces are elastic loops that attach to the earpieces of your spectacles.
5 Select two lapel pins.
6 Attach the free end of one chain to your left lapel with the lapel pin. Insert the chain over the pin and secure with backing. Repeat on the right side. You will have two chains hanging from your shirt.
7 Slide the eyeglass holder over your earpiece on either side. Wear glasses as normal.
Tips & Warnings
Elastic eyeglass holders are more durable than rubber.
You can purchase a detachable ring, such as the Pin Pal, to add a loop to the base of an existing lapel pin.
Choose pins with secure packing and a durable face to avoid accidental damage to your glasses.
