How to Adjust Temples on Eyeglasses

Having your glasses slide down your nose all the time is frustrating and annoying. Glasses that fit too tightly even can cause a headache. It’s best to have an eye care professional adjust your glasses, but for those times you need a quick fix, you can adjust the temples on your eyeglasses yourself.

Instructions

Things You’ll Need:
Warm water
Towel

1. Push your glasses up on your nose to where you want them to sit comfortably. Check the glasses and how they are sitting on your ears. Feel along the temple and the top of your ears where the temple bends. If the glasses are sliding down too much, then the bend is probably too short on the temples. If the glasses are tight, the bend is probably too long.

2. Place the frames in a bowl of very warm water to make the temple pliable. The water should be very warm, but not boiling hot. Work on one temple at a time. To tighten the temples, place your finger under the bend in the temple and straighten the temple out as much as possible. Rebend the temple. You should create a new bend that is smooth and flowing, not sharp and angled.

Move the bend closer to the front of the frame to tighten the fit. Place the frame back in the warm water as needed to keep the temple pliable. Repeat with the other temple. Dry off the frame with the towel and check the fit, as you work to see if your adjustment is correct.

3. Put the frame in warm water to loosen the fit of tight temples. Straighten a temple out. Move the bend farther down the temple, away from the front of the frame to loosen the fit. Place the frame back in the warm water as needed to keep the temple pliable. Repeat with the other temple. Dry off the frame with the towel and check the fit, as you work to see if your adjustment is correct.

Tips & Warnings
Sometimes a frame and temples feel tight when the nose pads, the part of the frame that rest on the nose, are too wide. This causes the frame to sink down on the nose and pull on the ears. If you are unsure of the fit, have a licensed eye care professional check the fit of our glasses. Many opticians adjust glasses for no charge..
