How to Adjust to Wearing New Eyeglasses

It can take time to adjust to new eyeglasses. Whether you have simply changed frames or are using a different prescription, a new pair of eyeglasses feels different and requires an adjustment period. Give yourself some time to get used to your new glasses if you are feeling uncomfortable. They should feel natural and hardly noticeable in about a week.

Instructions

1 Ask your eye care professional to professionally fit the glasses to your face. New eyeglasses may feel strange or uncomfortable if they are adjusted to your specific measurements. Have them professionally fitted so that they are level, tight enough and look proper.

2 Store your old eyeglasses to avoid comparing the new with the old, especially if your prescription has changed. Reverting back to the old pair will only prolong the adjustment period.

3 Wear your new eyeglasses as prescribed by your doctor. You may feel uncomfortable in your new glasses, which may make wearing them feel awkward. Regardless, always wear your glasses as much as possible to break them in.

4 Remove your eyeglasses if you develop headaches, eye pain or dizziness and keep them off until the symptoms subside. New eyeglasses may cause your eyes to refocus in an uncomfortable way. This will eventually pass.

5 Visit your eye care professional if you continue to experience discomfort after one week of wear. It shouldn’t take longer than a few days to get used to new eyeglasses.
